This fascinating course focuses on the knowledge and techniques you will need to become an effective Human Resources or Personnel Manager, and outlines the simple processes and procedures you need to put in place to get your “team” on side, the business running efficiently, and stay on the right side of the law. It also helps you to define your organisation’s goals and aspirations, and how to communicate them in order to engage and enthuse others so that they too want the same or similar outcomes. This is what leadership is all about, whether at a team or organisational level, and you will learn it here!
The course is exhaustive and comprehensive. It teaches you to understand the concepts and legalities of recruitment and selection, clearly explains applicable legislation (including the rights and obligations of both employees and employers) and how to manage employee relations. It also gives an insight into performance management, including how to properly record, monitor and review the performance of others, how to understand payroll administration, identify training needs (and then plan and deliver appropriate training) and much, much more.
The final part of the course deals with coaching and mentoring staff. By the time you complete the course you will be very well-prepared to implement a structured HR plan, and will have a good grounding in employment law.
A glance at the Course Outline tab above will give you a detailed view of all the subject matter to be studied, and the breadth of knowledge you will pick up.
One of the key benefits of studying Human Resources with My Distance Learning College is that we deliver the entire package of course materials in a single dispatch. This enables our students to get a real feel for the overall structure and content of the course, and measure their progress much more effectively. The modular method of delivery favoured by other providers breaks up and interrupts the learning process. It prevents students from moving faster through sections they are more confident with, or taking more time over the deeper ideas that need more thought and understanding.

Can anyone do the course?
Anybody with a reasonable standard of general education will be able to cope with the academic demands of the course. If you can read and write well enough to complete a job application, and have a good grasp of basic maths (add, subtract, multiply and divide) you should have no problems. The course materials are written in simple everyday language and the answers to your assignments will be completed in the same style.
In addition to the comprehensive course materials provided, you will receive a Study Guide to assist you, and, of course, you will have the support of your tutor.
What will the course cover?
The course covers the areas of study listed above through detailed exploration of the subject matter. You will also receive tasks and prompts for further personal exploration and research to carry out so that you can gauge how much you have learned. There are plenty of examples to help you but personal research is a prerequisite at this level, so be prepared to use your initiative to fully answer the assignments.
Is the course accredited?
Yes, the course is accredited by NCFE through our IIQ licence. You can see the full details on our website under the Qualification Information tab. Students will complete all the set assignments using the information the course material provides combined with personal research. To help you get to this stage, there are also a number of self-assessment exercises for each section.
Although the course is comprehensive and informative, we do expect you to carry out your own investigations. After all, if you are not prepared to do your own research, you should be asking yourself if this is the right subject choice for you!
What does the course prepare me for?
The course materials and accompanying tasks will help you to develop the necessary knowledge and confidence to successfully complete the tutor marked assignments. The tasks are designed to encourage you to apply your knowledge, and help you to develop relevant research and academic writing skills.
What level is the course at?
The Learning outcomes for the Human Resources course have been benchmarked at Level 3, using Ofqual’s Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF). Your work is not graded; assignments are simply identified as Pass or Referred. For assignments not passed at first attempt, your tutor will advise on the improvements to be made to obtain a Pass on a reworking.
Certificates will be issued by NCFE on successful completion of all the assignments.
How do I send in my work?
You email your assignments one at a time for marking. This enables your tutor to properly assess the standard and style of your work for each section, and give you feedback which will be used on your next assignment; a process of continuous improvement. On obtaining feedback and comment you will either move on to the next assignment or review and rework the one you submitted.
If I fail an assignment can I retake it?
Yes, your tutor will ask you to resubmit your assignment and give you some pointers as to where you could improve.
What do I receive once I order the course?
We will send you ALL the course materials. This consists of a folder and Study Guide, plus a package of bonus materials and items to enhance your learning experience.
Is there a time limit or any deadlines?
The course should be completed within 12 months, but can be extended for a small fee if your tutor supports your request. As a rough guide, depending on your circumstances and commitment, the course can be completed in about 100 study hours. There are no other deadlines to meet.
Is there a word count for my assignments?
There is a suggested word count given for the tutor marked assignments, but it is more important that you demonstrate to your tutor that you have fully understood the questions; a comprehensive Study Guide is included with the course. Many students start slowly at first,
Will the course help me get a job?
NCFE, the awarding body, is a highly respected organisation that imposes strict standards on its centres. An NCFE certificate should be accepted by employers or further education providers.
